Wednesday, 14 January. . . we arrived in Italy. . .

looking up at my hon on the tram as we ride out to the runway
to get on our little plane to Italy
these suave European guys got nothing on my styling hon?!!?
(don't you just love the little contrasting plaid piping!)
all of our flights have thankfully been perfectly uneventful
nothing lost
no turbulence
no delays....
even our driver ANDREA meets us at baggage claim
Professor DeGeorge on his sign
he lets us know molto poco inglese (very little)
and proceeds...we hope to take us to our desired destination
we drive for what seems forever
in what feels like some undetermined direction
around hundreds of traffic circles
apparently following some signage
but nothing we could distinguish
my hon and I look at each other about 40 minutes into the drive
and ask almost simultaneously
I wonder where he is taking us!?!
more along the lines of thinking...
how
are we going to get our 100 pounds of luggage plus carry ons
from the campus to our apartment!?!?
standing in the parking lot of CIMBA
but in accord with how smoothly everything has gone so far
we arrive at the Istituti Filippin and are met by Stephania waiting for us in the parking lot
she greets us with our car, our keys, our welcome packet...
sends our luggage on ahead of us...
and takes us to our lovely little apartment
instructs us in everything we need to know
even where the closest grocery is
and leaves us to rest and settle in
our first night in our new home
our apartment and the bell tower to the Church
we open our shuttered windows
and watch the twilight come
and all the things of Italy come back to me
the shutters
the bells
the bidet!
the clock that reads military time
the temperature that is C
the calendar that reads the date before the month
but at the end of the day. . . it is all the same
my hon cooks our first meal . . . in our new Italian home
where we live . . .in Italy
